Create a new wallet or restore

When you first open Ledger Live: select Get started, choose whether you are setting up a new device or restoring an existing wallet using your 24-word recovery phrase. For a new device, follow on-device prompts to set a PIN and write down your recovery phrase exactly.

Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone.
Use a durable backup method (paper, metal seed storage) for long-term safety.

Pairing & login

Connect your Ledger device via USB (or Bluetooth for Ledger Nano X) and unlock it with your PIN. Ledger Live will detect the device and guide you through adding accounts. Approve account additions and transactions on your device screen — Ledger Live never exposes private keys.

Important: Always verify transaction recipients and amounts on your Ledger device before confirming.

Troubleshooting

Device not detected:

App asks to install an app on the device:

Open the Manager in Ledger Live and install the blockchain app (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.).

Advanced features

Ledger Live supports staking for certain assets, integration with third-party apps and dApps, and advanced options like passphrases for hidden wallets. Use advanced features only after understanding the tradeoffs — a lost passphrase cannot be recovered.
